Docents/Volunteer Naturalists needed

Join us in engaging our community and our schools! No experience necessary as all docents/volunteer naturalists will need to participate in our training and orientation program.  

  • Welcome visitors to RBACS and welcome & orient school groups to the Center
  • Lead Bay Shore Studies field trip programs (grades 3-6)
  • Lead Audubon’s Birds field trip programs (grades K-3)
  • Lead 1 hour in-class programs to elementary students (grades K-6)
  • Lead concept reinforcement games as part of school visits to Center (grades K-3)
  • Welcome visitors into Lyford House

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional lifting/carrying
  • Able to walk along uneven surfaces, marshes, steps, sand
  • Able to get up and down from the ground easily

Docents/Volunteer Naturalists should be able to interact well with children, teens and adults, be willing to work in weather conditions such as light rain and moderately cold temperatures, and be able to drive to schools for programs and bird walks (if applicable). The majority of programs are during the school day. Additional opportunities to lead afternoon Girl Scout programs may be available. We request Docents/Volunteer Naturalists commit to a minimum of two days per month and an average of 4.5 hours per day. All volunteers will need background checks to be able to work with children.
