The Work We Do

Richardson Bay is ground zero for waterbirds and Pacific herring in San Francisco Bay. We manage the only open water sanctuary in San Francisco Bay, which provides shelter from all disturbance during each winter season. Our 900-acre open water sanctuary is closed from October 1-March 31 each year, and is a unique subtital and tidal ecosystem utilized by researchers focused on questions about how best to protect and restore the eelgrass system.
Our 10.5 acre site adjacent to the bay hosts our youth conservation leadership program, summer camp, volunteer opportunities, and offers facility rentals to individuals and organizations. The space is open to the public to enjoy each weekday.
Registration is open! Our inclusive programming is perfect for nature-lovers between the ages of 4 and 7.
