Q: Can my almost 4 year old attend camp?
A: Sorry, we love all ages to come explore our site, but all campers must be 4 years of age BEFORE the first day of their registered session.

Q: Which session is best for my child?
A: Every week is filled with fun activities and explorations! You know your child best. We suggest reading through the themes carefully to determine which week will be the best fit for your child’s interests. Some weeks may have kids in the mud and water more than others.

Q: Do you offer any discounts?
A: Yes! We offer an early bird discount on all regular camp sessions before March 1st.

Q: Do you offer any sibling discounts?
A: Sorry, but at this time we are not offering any sibling discounts.

Q: Do you offer scholarships?
A: Yes, we have a limited number of need based scholarships available. Scholarship forms are available upon request and based on financial need. If you are not in need of a scholarship and have the means to do so, help send a child in need to camp by contributing to our camper scholarship fund as part of your registration.

Q: Can my child and their friend be in the same group?
A: Camper groups are created based on grade and age. If campers are in the same grade or are the same age, we will do our best to group them together. Please remember to enter your child’s friend’s name when the registration asks for friend requests. In cases where there are large groups of friends asking to be together, we may need to divide the group to accommodate even camp groupings. Be sure to request the highest priority friend.

Q: Can siblings be in the same group?
A: If siblings are very close in age, then yes. Otherwise, our camp groups are age appropriate. Children that are too young or too old for their group tend to have a difficult week. Our Teacher Naturalists will do their best to ensure your children feel safe, comfortable, and have fun in the best group for their age and development.

Q: What is a waste free lunch?
A: Waste-free lunches generate zero trash! For example, reusable containers are encouraged over throw away packaging. While this is a challenge, the parent packet contains tips on getting as waste-free as possible. We do compost here at Audubon, so compostable foods (not dairy or meat) will stay here. All other trash will come home in your child’s lunch bag.

Q: Why can’t my child have peanuts or peanut butter in their lunch?
A: A growing number of young children have severe allergies to peanuts and peanut products. This allergy, unlike many other food allergies, can result in a life threatening reaction in children exposed to peanuts by touch or inhalation, even if they do not consume the food items. To ensure all our campers have a safe environment to explore nature, we respectfully request you refrain from sending your child with peanuts or peanut products in their snacks or lunches.

Q: What do they do at camp?
A: Each day includes a welcome activity and circle to introduce the day. Campers then head out to explore the Sanctuary, enjoy snack, play games, and discover nature. Lunch is generally around 11:30am. After lunch there is time for more games, explorations, and stewardship activities. At 1:45pm all groups return to their base for a closing circle and are ready to welcome back their parents at 2pm.

Q: What do they do if it rains?
A: It would be a rare occurrence for rain to arrive in summer, but rain or shine, campers will explore the Sanctuary. We do have indoor spaces so children can come out of the cold, fog, or rain, and enjoy experiments, artifact explorations, and more.

Q: If I am on the Waiting List, how do I know if I’ll get in?
A: If a space opens up in a camp session, we will notify the first person on the waitlist by email (unless you specify phone only). You will have 24 hours to let us know if you would like the spot. If we do not hear from you, we will offer the spot to the next person on the list. We do not automatically accept anyone off the waitlist without parent confirmation.

Q: Does my credit card get charged if I’m on the Waiting List?
A: No. Your credit card will only be charged if a spot comes available AND you accept it.

Q: My credit card was declined but I am not sure why.
A: We can only accept Visa or Mastercard. If you used American Express or another credit card, the system has declined the payment. Please call us, 415-388-2524, with a Visa or Mastercard. If you used a card we accept, it is possible a number was transposed when you entered your payment. We are happy to re-enter your payment information.

Q: What do I bring for my child?
A: Please download the appropriate Camp Parent Packet. It will have all the information you need to be prepared for camp. Bring extra clothes, peanut-free, waste-free lunch, your completed pick-up form if someone other than yourself will pick up your child, sunscreen if you have a preference of brand, hat, reusable water bottle, closed-toe shoes, and a jacket or sweatshirt in case it gets cold.

Q: Can I drop my child off at the curb?
A: No. For the safety of all our campers, campers must be signed in with their Teacher Naturalist in the morning and signed out in the afternoons.

Q: Can someone else pick up or drop off my child?
A: Yes. If they are picking up, please be sure to give your Teacher Naturalist a completed pick-up form and let the person picking up your child know to have a picture ID with them.

Q: Do I have to sign up for Extended Camp ahead of time? Can I sign up for individual days?
A: To ensure space is available, it is a good idea to register ahead of time for extended camp. You can sign up for the full week or for individual days. Extended camp does sell out, so don’t assume a spot is available unless a staff member has confirmed your camper can stay. If you wish to add extended camp AFTER you have completed your registration, you will need a staff member to do so. Please contact us for assistance.

Q: Can I drop my child off before 9 am?
A: Teacher Naturalists and Youth Naturalists are busy preparing for the day’s adventure prior to the camp day beginning. Please arrive on time to drop off your child. We open our gates at 8:45am. Once the gates are open, you may drop off and sign-in your child.

Q: What if I want to change or cancel the camp week?
A: There is a $15 change fee for changing camp weeks. There is a $75 processing fee for any camp weeks cancelled prior to June 1st. Cancellation requests received after June 1st and more than three weeks prior to your child’s session receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be made for cancellations within 3 weeks of your child’s camp session.
